This two-piece carving set benefits from J.A. Henckels's 260 years in the cutlery business. The sharp carving fork holds that roast or ham steady while the 8-inch slicer/carver glides easily through the meat. They're made from high-grade, rolled stainless steel, produced using Henckels's own Sintermetal Component Technology. This process allows different grades of steel to be combined to form a single integral piece capable of withstanding extreme stress--each part of the knife is made from the grade of steel with the optimum characteristics for that component. The cutting edge features a specially designed serration pattern, ensuring prolonged sharpness without resharpening. The full-length tang (meaning the metal continues all the way through to the end of the handle) gives you a better-balanced and stronger knife. The polypropylene handle with rustproof rivets is nearly indestructible. Both utensils are dishwasher-safe, but be careful that they don't touch other objects; hand washing is recommended to keep steel blades scratch free. --Doree Armstrong

 It's not the knife...it's the maintenance March 14, 2008
Even Alton Brown will tell you, it's not the price of the knife. It's how well you maintain it. Just invest in a good knife sharpener. I've had this several yrs and it's still razor sharp.

This is a great starter carving set or a good every day use set. If you're a pro, semi-pro, or weekend warrior chef, this isn't a set for you. $20 is fair price to have this set in your drawers.

An excellent value. Looks pretty good and feels good in my hand. Slices meat well and more thinly than I could with my old Chicago Cutlery nonserrated carving knife but haven't tried yet on poultry.

This set doesn't measure up to Henkel's good knives but for the occasional carving the roast...so far so good.

This is a wonderful carving set. I have never been able to carve thin slices of meat/poultry. This knife does the job beautifully. The fork is light yet quite sturdy. The knife is a good size and is as sharp as one would want and is easy to handle. It is serrated and never needs sharpening. I would definitely recommend this carving set.
